- What worked was I adjusted the volume in the settings by dragging the volume bar manually and I was able to use my volume buttons again.
- No sound at all: no itunes music, no video playback sound, no alert sounds - nothing.
- Had this problem ever since updating to Yosemite.
- Unplug the computer's power cord.
