Wii U Surround Sound Games
Not everyone has a state of the art surround sound system like mine. So I've been thinking, if I connect the HDMI to the receiver AND the Red and White Av wires from the Wii u to where the sound outputs, would that work. Agree with comments higer up in this thread, that Wii U should support DD and DTS these are just standard formats. permalinkembedsaveparentgive gold[–]seluropnek 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago*(9 children)...dude. http://thumbd.net/wii-u/wii-u-games-not-working.html
Unless the adapter did some kind of (lossy and laggy) transcoding, it wouldn't be possible. These are lossless compression. Don't try to sound like you know what you're talking about because you're just a fuckin' moron. Check that the correct settings are being used on the Wii U.

- Go figure.
- At this point it is assumed that anyone that truly cares about surround is going lossless.
- Very, very disappointing for a console that is being marketed for its ability to serve as a media hub.
- The receiver is supposed to output video through HDMI and the audio comes out of the speakers directly connected to the receiver.

Wii U Audio Settings if you try a test that's specific to one surround sound technology such as Dolby digital it may not work because that test has no backward compatibility but it WILL work
if you can't get it working just set your wii u sound output to Stereo in the settings menu. If this solves your issue, then please use it in the future and be sure to keep your system up to date. Need answers? The only way to consistently get anything actually more than Stereo is to connect the audio source directly into the audio output which is generally a receiver or speakerbar system. So those old archaic games arent going to suffer lol Just because it doesn't effect you and your budget-line TV/AV set-up directly, doesn't mean you shouldn't empathize with those of which sorry in advance for the horrible camera work though, my phone is the only camera I have that could do videos in stereo. permalinkembedsaveparentgive gold[–]moriyaNNID [Region] 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago(1 child) I think read somewhere that the optical output on TVs is restricted by DRM to only output down mixed stereo from HDMI
The upcoming OUYA game console is also HDMI only for surround, and I would be surprised if the next Sony and MS systems had an optical port. The difference in sound is night and day between wii u and ps3. Optical can only output encoded surround sound(Dolby Digital, DTS, etc.) and Nintendo didn't pay licensing fees for those codecs to function on their system.
If you want TRUE 5.1 surround from the Wii U, you MUST have a receiver that does LPCM. the trick albeit it a bit cumbersome is to switch the sound mode on the Wii U to stereo. If you dont have the hardware to support it, dont hate on Nintendo for your short comings But.
