I got into the BIOS today and the keyboard is functional there. Afraid to plug in the wireless mouse again. If I put the computer into sleep mode, the problem will fix itself for a short time, then recur. I then went into Device Mananer and under Universal serial Bus Controllers, uninstalled the first two items listed, hoping that when I re-start, what I uninstalled would be re-installed. http://thumbd.net/windows-8/windows-8-not-responding-after-login.html

BUT it's a recurring problem so this is a solution albeit a temporary one. This problem started after I started training Win8 to recognize my voice. When I upgraded my system to Windows 8.1 I found everything to be perfect and was very happy.
The Laptop keyboard & Pad continue to work. I tried to uninstall all drivers related to keyboard and touchpad via device manager. Hope this helps.
