I lost sound on EVERYTHING except the headphone jack, no windows startup sound, no Quicken sound, you-tube, media center, etc. These processes include driver installations. In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Sound, video, and game controllers. I've been pulling my hair out the last 3 hours with this BS and your simpler than simple solution worked. For x64-based computers: Stwrt64.cat - published 12/17/07 or earlier Exceptions for IDT/SigmaTel drivers were made on certain models of Dell, HP, and Sony computers because these drivers were updated to address have tried installing new codecs, running sound Fix-it, reinstalling sp2, and nothing works. KB948481 also describes a range of steps designed to let do-it-yourselfers manually troubleshoot and resolve any sound problems.

- My speakers are just as not good as everyone else's but when I plugged my headphone in my sound could get louder before.

- Playing music (Stored on the pc) is fine, playing games is fine, but as soon as i put on a DvD there is no sound at all.
- You are in XP.
