Place the socket on the ratchet or, if needed, on an extension that is attached to the ratchet. sounds like the wiper arm has poped off the pivot. If however the arm is re-tightened (or replaced) but the blades still don’t work there could be a problem with your windshield wiper linkage. I also suggest trying to tighten that nut first.
